Participative Photography

Photovoice

At the end of 2014 I conducted my first participatory photography workshop.

A group of  middle-age women from Martorell, with low level of education and income participated in the project “Coses de Dona/IDN Martorell”, whose results were exposed in the exterior walls of the Martorell market and inside the Ateneu Cultural de Martorell.

Although I had always believed in journalistic and documentary photography committed to reality as a tool of transformation of our society, it was not until I discovered participatory photography that I really understood the power of photography as a tool of personal and social transformation.

IDENTITAT DONES MARTORELL

IDN Martorell is a program of artistic workshops in disciplines such as photography, dance, and graffiti, carried out in the municipality of Martorell from October to December 2014.

The objectives of the project were:

i) To offer a space for creative experimentation aimed at strengthening self-esteem, identity, and confidence in one’s own abilities among women and young people in Martorell who are unemployed and/or at risk of social exclusion.

ii) To provide participants with creative tools to amplify and make their voices visible, offering them a stable space for interaction and support through new technologies, as well as the knowledge and tools that would allow them not only to enjoy the collective creative process, but also to ensure the quality of the artistic material produced.
