TRANSNACIONALES exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Centre of Nicaragua, curated by Claudi Carreras.

Photography Across Borders

Transnational, a collective photography exhibition curated by Claudi Carreras and presented in Nicaragua in 2013, brought together a group of international photographers exploring the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world.

Among the participating artists were Sergi Cámara, Alfonso Moral, and Héctor Mediavilla, who presented his project Penelopes.

Mobility, Identity, and Global Realities

The exhibition focused on how identities and territories are reshaped by transnational flows—of migration, culture, and economic exchange. Through diverse photographic approaches, the artists examined the tensions between local contexts and global dynamics, revealing both the opportunities and contradictions embedded in these processes.

Mediavilla’s Penelopes contributed a deeply human perspective to the project, addressing the often-overlooked experience of women who remain behind as migration reshapes family and social structures.

Rethinking Belonging

Rather than presenting a single narrative, Transnational offered a constellation of viewpoints that reflected the complexity of contemporary life across borders. The exhibition invited viewers to reconsider notions of identity, belonging, and home within a world defined by movement and exchange.
