PENÉLOPES travelling exhibition in small communities of Guanajuato state
Although Penélopes was exhibited in cultural institutions such as Casa Amèrica Catalunya and the Centro Cultural de España en México, an essential part of the project was ensuring that the images and reflections returned to the very communities where they originated.
With the support of the state of Guanajuato and especially Las Libres — a feminist organization that has long worked in defense of women’s rights — it was possible to organize a travelling exhibition across several rural communities in the region. The exhibition was presented in towns such as Cieneguilla and Tierra Blanca, bringing the project closer to women and families whose experiences resonated deeply with those portrayed in Penélopes.
Beyond the conventional exhibition space, these presentations became places for encounter and collective reflection. Showing the work within the social and rural context of Guanajuato allowed the stories portrayed in the project to be understood not as distant narratives, but as part of a shared and familiar reality. In a way, the project completed a circle by returning the voices and images to the communities from which they had emerged.
